Cardboard & Styrofoam Recycling
COMING SOON

With boxes arriving virtually every day at Midwest homes and businesses, the amount of cardboard and Styrofoam packaging material piles up quickly. Organizations and consumers need ways to clear out the heavy-duty cardboard and bulky Styrofoam once the packages are empty. Recycling of cardboard and Styrofoam reduces landfill waste and conserves our natural resources. CM Environmental offers free, reliable, and environmentally responsible recycling of cardboard and Styrofoam. Our waste management experts operate a cardboard and Styrofoam drop-off site at the Menominee County Annex in Stephenson and at the CM Environmental facility in Daggett, Michigan. We make it easy to sustainably dispose of these two packing materials.

Recycling Guidelines

Cardboard

CM Environmental accepts cardboard boxes of all sizes and colors. To ensure the efficient handling and reuse of cardboard, please follow these recycling guidelines.

Empty
All of the contents and packaging materials should be removed from the cardboard boxes prior to recycling.

Clean
Cardboard needs to be clean and free of grease, oil, dirt, and other contaminants so recyclers can process it effectively.

Flatten
The cardboard needs to be flattened so CM Environmental can transport it efficiently to recycling centers where it can be made into new products.

Remove Excess Tape
Although a small amount of tape isn’t an issue, large amounts of tape should be removed from a box before it is recycled.

Check for Coatings
Not all cardboard is suitable for recycling. Please discard cardboard that’s coated with plastic, wax, glitter, or other materials.

Styrofoam

CM Environmental accepts Styrofoam shipping containers and large pieces of molded Styrofoam packing material. To ensure the efficient processing of Styrofoam, please follow these recycling guidelines.

Keep the Styrofoam As Is
Do not try to break down small or large chunks of molded Styrofoam packing material.

Clean & Dry
Styrofoam should be clean and dry before it’s delivered to the drop-off center.

Remove Foreign Objects
Check for nails and other objects and remove them from the Styrofoam.

No Blown Film
CM Environmental does not accept blown film Styrofoam. Examples are foam egg cartons, meat trays and similar types of food packaging. We do not accept packaging peanuts either.
